What’s My First Step in Knowing God?
There’s a book that contains an incredible story of love and forgiveness, and the good news is, it was written just for you. In this book, God tells us how much He desperately wants to us to know Him, and it lays out 3 clear points:
First, the Bible tells us that mankind has a problem, and this problem is sin. As Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”
Since each one of us has this problem, what can we do about it?
Second, the good news is that God provided a solution. 1 John 4:9 tells us “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him.” He loved us so much that He gave us the gift of His Son Jesus to die for us, and take the place of our sin.
So what do we do with this gift?
Third, the Bible demands a decision. It’s not enough to just know about God and His story of love. You must choose to put your trust in Christ, to receive this free gift of salvation that God offers. When we accept this gift, we come into His perfect love of acceptance and forgiveness.
John 1:12 says, “Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” You can do this by praying a simple prayer, telling God you know you are a sinner who needs forgiveness, and you are ready to accept His son Jesus as your personal savior. There is no need to worry that God did not hear you. His word promises us that “everyone who calls on the name of Lord will be saved”. If you prayed this prayer of repentance, you are now His child!
Where do I go from here?
Remember that God wants to have a relationship with you, which means it is a real, interactive thing. Here are three things we are confident will help you grow in your relationship with God:
Gather Together. An important first step as a new believer is getting plugged into a biblical faith community. If you don’t have one already, we’d love to have you join ours. We worship on Sunday mornings. When God’s people come together and worship him, amazing things can happen!
Grow in Groups. You aren’t meant to go through life alone. In our church, we believe being part of a group is vital to allowing you the opportunity to live out your faith in community. This is where you will be able to have conversations, ask questions, live out mission, and grow spiritually.
Go Live It Out. Learning each day what it means to love and follow Christ is what the Christian walk is all about. It’s an everyday, step by step process. And we’d love to equip you along the way.
